Casa de Mis Padres, house of my parents, is a peaceful, colonial home perched in Santiago in an area with many expat owners.
Very conveniently situated in Merida’s historic Centro, this beautifully renovated colonial with 2 bedrooms and 2 and 1/2 bathrooms is located within walking distance to Parque Santiago, with its excellent mercado featuring locally sourced fruits, vegetables, spices, meats and seafood. The home’s colonial facade has been restored and the home was completely remodeled to make the most of natural light and ventilation with a modern feel while still retaining many of its traditional colonial attributes.
Stepping into the formal entrance foyer, you will see that this home has been very thoughtfully remodeled with love and attention to detail throughout, with its high beamed ceilings, open spaces, and tile floors. All interior spaces have ceiling fans but are also air conditioned. The guest bedroom is just off of the foyer at the front of the home. It is very spacious and has its own large bathroom attached. Sitting on the opposite side of the entry is the interior living room with plenty of natural light for reading as well. The guest half bathroom sits off of this living area. Past this area is the open-plan dining and kitchen area with sit at bar. The modern chef’s kitchen has just be redone and features wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, walk-in pantry, commercial range, LED accent lighting and stone countertops. It opens onto the large and screened informal living and gathering area with attached laundry room and separate storage bodega. This screened terrace looks over the courtyard garden and affords views towards the pool and garden at the rear as well. The covered terrace is perfect for enjoying a lazy day at home, hanging out after a dip in the filtered pool, or enjoying a tequila with limes from the home’s producing lime tree.
Next is the 2 story master suite. Downstairs is the tv/lounge which leads to the pool, backyard and grilling area. Upstairs is the grand master suite with balcony overlooking the pool and garden below. The luxurious bathroom features a stand alone soaking tub and has access to its very own roof terrace.
The outdoor space has been designed for minimal maintenance and is dominated by the pool where many days are spent in Merida. The pool has a shallow area for kids, pets or lounging. It also features a solar heater to extend its use throughout the year. Speaking of solar, there are also 20 solar panels to greatly lessen your electrical bills and give you no worries when needing to run the AC on those hot Merida days.
This amazing colonial home has been artfully designed to make the best use of its space, providing a tranquil place for its dwellers to make the most of their stay and life in Yucatan.
